Ionad Dhál

Ionad Dhál Riada was set up to provide support,direction and structure to the Centre and it’s activity programme. It’s membership is comprised of representatives from language groups, tourism bodies and community groups . The name of the group reflects the historical & linguistic links between the three regions.

Objectives
To promote and maintain business and advance  education, arts and technology through the indigenous languages of Ireland and Scotland and to act as a catalyst for economic and community development.
To promote a better understanding and appreciation of the joint heritage and culture of the peoples of Scotland and Ireland.
To advance education and employment opportunities for all, without distinction of sex, race, political, religious or other opinions.

The Activity Programme delivers a range of language & culture products throughout the catchment area,

  • St. Patrick’s Weekend 2007 -- Intensive Irish Language Courses (beginners, intermediate) -- St. Aloysius Secondary School, Coast Rd., Cushendall
  • Language/Outdoor Activity Week -- Joint Irish language and outdoor activities week (July) for children aged 8 – 14 -- Ballycastle/Cushendall (tbc)
  • Language/Hill Walking Weeks -- Joint Irish language and hill walking week for adults (July/Aug 2007) -- Ballycastle/ Cushendall (tbc)
  • Ulster Scots Language Course -- 6-8 week long language course in Ulster Scots -- Larne Council Area – Sept/Oct 2007
  • Irish Language Course -- Halloween 2007 -- weeklong course for adults
